What does CycleSac do that other bike apps don't do already?
Can I use CycleSac in places other than Sacramento?
Why are my trip purpose, ride comfort, and personal info important?
I participate in May is Bike Month activities, too; if I log a trip using CycleSac, will it show up on my May is Bike Month trip log?
I have a great ride to the grocery store except for the last two blocks—does that mean I rate my whole route as "terrible"?
Why do you want my email address? I don't want any spam.
What about other privacy issues?
How long should I keep using CycleSac?
There are a lot of bike-focused apps available, but CycleSac is the only one that is wholly focused on making biking in the Sacramento region (El Dorado , Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba counties) better for people who want to ride bikes. The information collected each time you record a bike trip with CycleSac will be shared with transportation planners to help them better understand where people ride bikes in the region and the factors that influence route choices (terrain, presence of bike lanes, purpose of trip, etc.) When you choose to ride your bike (or not ride your bike) on particular streets or in particular areas, CycleSac is able to capture how transportation infrastructure and land development might affect you riding your bike and give that information to the people who can make transportation changes.
CycleSac can be used when you ride your bike in all six counties and 22 cities in the SACOG region, meaning El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba counties. When you use the app anywhere within those six counties, you are providing useful information to transportation planners and analysts so they can build a better bike network.
This is a new, one-of-a-kind dataset that's never been collected before in our region. Research has shown that different types of people use different routes, and that biking for exercise is really different from biking for groceries or commuting. Sharing your trip comfort on any route will also help us learn where people like to bike and where they must to bike. Those little extra bits of information go a long way toward helping us understand how people ride bikes in the Sacramento region. You don't have to enter any personal info, but we hope you will since it just takes a few seconds and will never be shared or linked to specific recorded rides.
Yes, it does. If your email address registered through www.mayisbikemonth.com matches your email address registered with CycleSac, bike rides logged through CycleSac will automatically upload to www.mayisbikemonth.com, and you’ll earn a CycleSac badge!
If there is a particular part of your ride that needs to be called out for good or bad reasons, you can use the Notes feature to specifically identify the area. There, you can provide more detail about what you feel is an asset or a challenge to biking along the route and include a picture of the issue or area. SACOG will share that anonymous information with the appropriate jurisdiction so they will know what people riding bikes like and don’t like.
We'll keep the email addresses for project updates, but will never give your email out to anyone. Including your email address also makes it so your CycleSac bike rides can upload to www.mayisbikemonth.com during the month of May so you don’t have to log your miles separately. You can also opt-in if you are interested in taking a survey about biking in the region in the future. If you choose not to give us your email address, you can still record your bike routes and user feedback.
Data representing the purpose, comfort level, route, date, and time are sent confidentially to servers being run by SACOG. Users can cancel a trip at any time for any reason and no data will be sent. No other identifying information is collected except with your opt-in permission. Our privacy policy is available online if you want to read more.
We hope you'll use CycleSac right away and often to give us as much data as possible. We will continuously examine data and share the information with the cities and counties who can make bike improvements, so there's no reason to stop using CycleSac for each time you ride a bike. The more data we receive, the more we can do for people riding bikes in the Sacramento region!
